Because the Basic Rules of English Are 4 N00bs! by crazylaura64 Because the Basic Rules of English Are 4 N00bs! by crazylaura64
I've seen so many badly-written fanfics... :iconimhorrifiedplz:

In a lot of cases I've encountered, I've seen authors who honestly think they are good writers, despite the fact that they seem to lack the knowledge of basic English. (Grammar, punctuation, spelling etc.) They THINK they genuinely know how to write. Sometimes, even fucking paragraphs are too hard for them. :|

To be honest, I always knew the basic rules of English (because I actually paid attention in English lessons.) I was still corrected by other people for certain errors I didn't spot (like spelling mistakes I completely missed), so I'm guilty for minor messups. But it looks like the fail authors actually fell asleep during those English lessons about the basics. Hence, the crappy Twilight and Naruto fanfics. =P

Bottom line: Learn basic spelling and grammar before writing a fanfic. This can also go for writing in general, actually...

The only thing I'm guilty of is the occasional typo. I avoid "Textspeak" in my fanfiction, even when I parody fanfiction cliches. I have found so many terribly written fanfiction in my main fandoms, and one fandom I frequent makes a female character, who is good in Canon, a bad character and some fanfiction with the character even Ships her with her own half-brother, and don't forget the "Character Bashing" of certain characters in fanfiction. I hate the fanfiction that has nothing but "Textspeak" in them.

So true. What annoys me most? Too many to count, but I'll admit I've started to get fed up with nicely telling writers that there is no such thing as could of, would of or should of. IT'S COULD'VE, WOULD'VE OR SHOULD'VE! HAVE! NOT OF!

I admit I've started to become a bit cruel with it, and apologise after *sigh*

sorry for the rant :)

oh I know.
But you know what really bugs me?
when their discribing what a person looks like and says the person has -insert colour here- "pupils". the pupil is the black part of your eye and it's actually a hole that lets in light, so it makes no sense. :iconfacepalmsplz:
The "iris" is the coloured part of your eye.

Ha ha, I never realised that people were getting their eye terminology wrong! (I guess all the spelling and grammar errors I've come across have somehow blinded me against proper biological terms. :P)

OMG! It takes me so long to write a fan fic because grammar and spelling are ALWAYS my main concerns. I usually have to re-read it a couple of times until I'm sure there are no errors.  That's why there aren't many fan fics in my Gallery.

I have an Animal Crossing fanfic on Wattpad, and it has good grammar and spelling!

I hate when you find a fic that has an interesting concept/or plot, and then terrible grammar ruins it.  -.-
